This winter Media Ventures started production on two films about ski jumping in the United States.
The birthplace of American ski jumping is Red Wing, Minnesota, where the first recorded tournament took place in 1887. But since the heyday of the sport when clubs abounded throughout the upper Midwest, and Olympians were produced almost every four years, sadly today only a handful of clubs still operate here. In fact, across the country ski jumping clubs are vanishing at an alarming rate. Learn more and watch a video sample.
Journey through China — September–November 2008
With the excitement of the Olympics winding down, we’re once again returning to China in partnership with BlueSheep Adventures. For the next two months we’ll be traveling throughout China in search of the ideal adventure travel excursion while filming the unique encounters we experience along the way.
In the midst of our travels around China, we’ll be taking a 12-day detour to head back into the earthquake zone of the Sichuan Province and to a mountain called Abi. This will be a journey to reconnect with remote villagers who have been affected by the earthquake but also an expedition to climb a technically challenging peak that nobody has ever scaled before.
We’ll be sending back updates from our travels and you can follow along as we attempt the first ascent of Abi. Follow the journey.
Media Ventures partnering with BlueSheep Adventures
Media Ventures is partnering with BlueSheep Adventures to offer unique adventure travel excursions. After the success of our first such collaboration — the climb of Mustagata in 2008 — we are offering two more ski and climb expeditions to China’s Mustagata in 2009.
Located in the Pamir mountain range of western China just north of the Himalaya and near K2, Mustagata is a popular destination for high altitude climbing and skiing. Join our expedition on Mustagata and ski or snowboard down 8,000 vertical feet of untracked snow with Jon Otto. There is no other person with more climbs on Mustagata than Jon. He first climbed the mountain in 1991, has reached the summit seven times, and has climbed three different routes. Jon has nearly 20 years of experience climbing in this region and brings that knowledge to the expedition. Learn more and sign up to join us.
