April 23, 2001Hello this is Walter Keller of the British American
Expedition. Phil and I just returned from the North Col where we spent one night.
And we did make one attempt to go higher on the mountain. Unfortunately, the winds
were extremely high on the North Col and especially as you started going up the
North Ridge, probably on the order of 60 to 80 miles an hour. So we just abandoned
our attempt to go higher. So basically what we did is we went up there and slept
on the Col and returned back to Advanced Base Camp.
When we got up to the Col, we discovered that the tent we placed up
there was destroyed by high winds. It was pretty much flatened, and I
guess were fortunate that all the gear didnt fly away. So
we had to erect another tent, and made sure it was pretty bomb proof.
Then we spent the night, and then went for our little foray a little higher
up. It appeared the weather was not improving, so were back at ABC.
Everything
is going well over all. You have to expect some bad weather sometime. Were
in a beautiful place and really have no complaints. Everybody at home take care.
Were doing well.
