Dispatch Nineteen -- Moving higher

April 21, 2001

Hello. This is Walter Keller of the British American Expedition just giving you a little update on what’s going on. Tim and Mike are still at Base Camp recuperating from the time they spent up here at Advanced Base Camp (ABC).

It’s very early in the morning here and the weather looks good. Phil and I today, if the weather holds, are going to head back up to the North Col and spend the night there. And depending on how we feel -- it’s 23,000 feet up there -- we’re hoping to go a little bit higher and move a camp up to about 7,500 meters (24,600 feet). And really we’ll just go from there and see how we feel. Ideally, we’d like to reach 7,900 meters (26,000 feet) but that’s very ambitious for this go, so we’re not sure that we’re going to quite get there. But we’re looking forward to a good day and a little bit of fun up on the North Col and up on the North Ridge.

We’ll be out of contact while we’re above ABC, as are Tim and Mike down at Base Camp.
