Listen to Walters voice dispatch from the mountain (528k mp3

April 12, 2001
Hello. This is Walter Keller from the British American Everest Expedition.
Were at 21,000 feet, thats about 6,400 meters. This is going
to be our second night at Advanced Base Camp. And weve got a bit
of weather today. Its a lot colder. Were all clad in down
and I have my One Sport high altitude boots on. Its a little bit
colder. Were all still in good spirits, looking forward to moving
up to the North Col. But were really not ready to go up. We need
a little bit more time for our bodies to adjust. Were going to spend
tonight and probably tomorrow night here at Advanced Base Camp.
Were situated right next to the East Rongbuk Glacier, which I
had a chance to go out and do a little wondering around on today -- beautiful,
beautiful glacier. Its a little different than most glaciers. Its
very blue with a lot of glacial ice. A lot of times on glaciers you have
to go down into the crevasses to see the blue glacial ice. But for whatever
reason, thats what this glacier is like. And its a pretty
amazing experience to go wandering out there.
For now were just sitting put and trying to stay healthy and get
our bodies ready to go higher.
