Right now its snowing here at ABC, but we are all now here. The
view is quite spectacular because the Big E is right here
above our camp. We have the North Col and the entire Northeast Ridge of
Everest right before us. The jet stream winds are still blowing plumes
off the summit, conjuring up thoughts and mixed emotions in all of us.
Although this place can be harsh, the stark beauty of it nullifies any
of those negative perceptions. The deep blue sky and brilliant sun we
wake up to every morning is why we're here. Its what pulls us to
these mountains.
Each of us has family and friends back home and we do get very lonely.
Mike and I have been tenting together and weve been able to talk
to each other about our wives and our families and that helps.
To each of us this mountain represents something different and now as
a team were here to approach it based on our own past experiences.
Each of us has our own hopes and expectations about what is to come, but
whether we make it to the top or not this will be a successful trip. Its
already had a positive impact on all of us.
